Stephen has been coming out to our launches for a few years now after getting hooked on capturing the rockets at launch. He has always shared his photos with us at no cost, and you can find many past launches on the Flickr site as well.

Now is an excellent time to renew your SARA membership for 2014.

The cost is still only $25.00 per family. These membership dues are vital to the upkeep and improvement of our equipment, so please purchase a membership if you are able.

You will save the $5 range fee at every club launch, as well as receiving a $5 discount on Desert Heat range fees. Your membership pays for itself if you attend less than half of our launches in 2013!

Rocketry Club Ready for Blastoff this Weekend

TUCSON, Arizona USA — On March 23 & 24, hundreds of rockets will soar into the sky at Desert Heat 2013 in Tucson. Rocket enthusiasts from around the Southwest will gather for the 9th Annual Winter Rocket Launch of the Southern Arizona Rocketry Association (SARA).

This entertainment is not just for rocketeers. Spectators and students will experience watching homemade rockets reach the speed of sound as they soar skyward. The Arizona Rocketry Team will be launching two projects. A 9-foot tall 16-inch diameter upscale Estes Mosquito and a 35-foot tall 6 in diameter upscale Estes Mean Machine!

Sign-Up to Help at Desert Heat 2013

Registration: Processes the paperwork to register fliers and issue wrist bands.

Cashier: Assists with the registration process, collecting range fees and selling raffle tickets.

Rent-a-Roc: Operates the rental rocket desk, helping fliers with minimal or no model rocket experience to prepare the rockets for flight. May need to repair rockets that incur minor damage from use.

RSO (Range Safety Officer): Responsible for the overall safety of the range, supervising pre-flight inspection of rockets and monitoring range operations. This position requires a TRA (Tripoli Rocketry Assoc.) level 2 certified member.

Safety Officer: This is a safety critical position, performing pre-flight inspection of rockets under the direction of the RSO. This requires medium to high experience with all levels of sport rocketry with a skill level commensurate with the complexity of models offered for launch.

LCO (Launch Control Officer): Operates the range, assigning pads according to rod/rail size, and safety requirements for the model and motor size and launching when safe. Should be a NAR or TRA level 1 certified member.

LCO 2: Assists the LCO, assigning pads according to rod/rail size, and safety requirements for the model and motor size.
